What a busy and exciting week it was for our class. We started off the week by having the local police department come with their vans for the children  to go on to sit in, press buttons, and meet police officers. All of this was part of our community helpers theme. We taught the children that police officers are our friends and that they help protect people and keep us safe. The officers were very friendly and it  was a great experience for them. Nursery friends learned about safety this week. We read the book Let's Stay Safe. The children and I spoke about all the different ways to stay safe. From wearing helmets when riding a bicycle, to stayng close to an adult while out and not talking to strangers, to police officers being our friends, and to stop drop and roll if your clthes catch fire. Our 911 project was sent home on Friday. It is very important to post this near your telelphone in the house and to go over these rules with your children again. They know to call 911 in case of an emergency.

Tu B'Shvat was the next Jewish holiday that we learned about. We spoke about how it is the new year for the trees. The children came up with many different ideas about what trees do for us and ways we use them and things we get from them. We then read the book The Giving Tree. The kids loved the book! In honor of Tu B'Shvat our class made very special hats with the 7 different species speacial from israel connected to this holiday. We also got to make fruit necklaces with the fruits from Israel. We hope you like them. Morah Chani led a special celebration where we all got to try the 7 different foods. The children we all so brave and tried all of them. Some of them hesitated but they all did it in the end - Morah told them how proud she was. We even got to try new fruits like star fruit, dragon fruit and a few others too!

On Thursday we went on a very special trip the to pizza store. The children behaved SO NICELY! They all worked so hard and together with their frinds to make some really yummy pizzas. Great job! While we waited for the pizzas to cook Morah read us a special book about going to the pizza store that we enjoyed hearing. Morah also made up a few different games that each table got to take turns playing that all had to do with pizza. One was a matching game with pizza items/ foods, another was putting the pizzas in order from giggest to smallest or vis versa, and there was also another game that was a puzzle for the children to put together of a boy eating a slice of pizza. What a great trip. Such a fun week! Can't wait to see what happens next week!

Nursery friends have learned all about the letter L. We made a poster with all of the words we could think  of that begind with L. We spoke about the sound it makes and what it looks like. The children went on a trip to the Laundromat as part of our L lesson. They got to put the clothes into the machine, the money, and the detergent too. They found this to be lots if fun! We spoke about why its important to wash our clothes and the hygeine about it. Our class spoke about different reasons why we need to clean clothes and what it smells like once it's clean.

Our lesson about the shoemaker was great. We got to take a trip to the shoemaker and see him fix shoes. The children all told Morah about how their shoes were all 'broken' and needed to be fixed at the shoemakers. It was so cute!

Winter has made quite an appearance lately and we took the oportunity to teach the children all about it. We discussed what we wear and what we can do outside during the cold weather. The children made pretend snow and played with it. It felt wet and cold. They found this to be very fun- playing with snow inside was definately a hit! We made our own snowmen too. It feels so cool!

Another letter we learned about was letter B. Aside from making our B chart with all the words we could think of, we also made a collage with B things from buttons, blue paper, to balls and more. Our class also got to Bake banana bread- the kids loved it- they thought it was so yummy. We also got to bake 2 cakes in honor of Rachel and Rebeccas birthday! Their mother and grandmother joined us for a party and it was so much fun. It was so nice to have them celebrate with us! Morah even brought bubbles in so we tookl turns blowing them. It was tons of fun! The kids were so excited and had a blast!

Nursery friends learned all about the hebrew letter Yud- we know the sound it makes and can point it out when we see it. Morah taught us some words that start with it. Yadayim are hands, Yerushalayim is jerusalem in Israel, and Yaroke is green. We made yadayim handprint on yaroke paper with a special poem too. We hope you like it!

We also got to have our Rosh Chodesh rally with Morah Chanie- it was fun learnign all about Tu B' Shvat and singing songs!

Morah taught us all about Yerushalayim since we also learned about the letter yud this week. The class all brought in things from Israel that they had from home and we had a show and tell. What fun we all had. It was so nice to see all the things the kids brought in. The children really enjoyed telling their friends all about what they brought in.

We cant wait to see what Morah has to teach us next!

Nursery 2 class began our unit of community helpers and started with the Grocery store. Morah taught the children how to behave properly in the grocery store and that we can't just leave with the food we put into our basket/ cart,we needs to pay for it first at the cash register. We learned the letter R in connection to this- Register. It was so much fun learning about the grocery store and making a chart of all the different foods we can buy at the grocery store. At our centers we pretened tto make a grocery store and we also did puzzles of community helpers and Morah even brought in a shopping cart for us to play with. We filled it with groceries and pretended to buy it at the cash register that we have in our classroom. It was great to see how much fun they all had with this. Nursery friends took a trip to the grocery store. We remembered to use our manners, behave properly and we were extra careful to make sure that we paid for the groceries at the cash register before we left.

The children all picked out red food to go along with our letter R for the week. Boris picke out a red caek that we baked for a birthday party for him. His mother and Grandmother came in for a party and they brought fruit and gifts for u. It was so much fun- happy birthday Boris! Our class made a fruit salad using the red groceries that we bought at the grocery store. It was so yummy! What a fun week!
